They were on me several times to give them a good review as soon as I chose them, but I was reluctant to give them any review at the point of sale. I had a bad experience once by picking the cheapest insurance quote. It was the one and only time that I ended up in small claims court. It was a minor collision and my insurance company then (not Erie or VanScoter) paid only for a used bumper in the repair. The injured party sued me – not the insurance company – and I lost the case. It cost me a few hundred dollars as I recall, but the hassle and embarrassment put me off on so-called “lowest insurance rates”.
Fast forward about a year from starting with Erie, and suddenly a deer totaled my car late one night near Brockport. My agent got the call, and I heard from the adjuster the next day. To my surprise, he arranged for a rental car, extended that for several days because of the holiday, and reminded me to apply my coverage with Erie to the rental to save that expense with the rental company. Then the best news… Largely because of the current shortage on used cars nationwide, the amount of the claim check – even after my $500 deductible – was a few hundred dollars more than I paid for the car a year earlier… even with the over 100,000 miles I put on it in the past year (I’m a medical courier driving 2500 miles per week).
I hate hitting deer, but at least this time the process of replacing my car couldn’t have gone smoother. Thanks Erie, Sharon, and VanScoter!”
